InisCealtra Community Development Ltd. was founded in 1995. The directors are Joe Duffy, Liam Flannery, Pat Donnellan, Paul Bugler, Kevin Chesser, Ciarán Lynch and Nora Kaye. Former directors include Pauline Madden, Mary Flannagan, Tom MacNamara and deceased director Paddy Bugler R.I.P.
In 1984, an Environmental Group was established to raise awareness of the importance of the Rectory Field as a green area in the village of Mountshannon. The members of the group were Michaél O’Rourke, Tess Lyons (R.I.P.), Noel Lyons, Margaret Sammon (R.I.P.), Tony Turner, Pat Donnellan and Carol Hoey. Mentors: Hugh and Grainne Weir.
Mountshannon Community Council was established in 1986. The founder members were Paddy Bugler MCC (R.I.P.), Kilrateera and Michael Durack, Clonoolia.
Since 1991, each successive Community Council, as sponsors of the FÁS Community Employment Programme, have been directly involved in the construction, maintenance and development of the Aistear.

From the very beginning, people in and outside the community have had involvement in the Aistear. The themes and concepts espoused in the Aistear were not new, but were an integral part of people and place. In the intervening years since the project began, many people in the community have died, but for those near to them, they are still here.
